That's where film goes in the movie industry too: the way of the dodo. Digital is here to stay because it's the future. If you can't see this development, then I would be worry.
The colours, saturation, and contrast in this film are great, but if you said to me that someone like Philip Bloom had made it on a Sony EX1 with a Letus, then I don't think I would have been able to tell the difference (and I doubt many other people would, either).
But keep it up, because this is good stuff.
just my 2 cents
i love both formats. Nothing but love from me.
But anywhere else, not so much.
I know shooting with 35mm can be a blast, but it's expensive and time consuming... personally, I'd opt for digital with a kit and some SLR lenses just so I could do what I love doing more often: tell stories.
Keep up the great work :)
isiah flores kills.
cinema is cinema
Isiah, great stuff. It's lit very nicely. Lighting's my biggest concern with a lot of HD Cinematographers, some assume that since what they see is what they get, there's no reason to worry about the lighting. It's interesting when you look at the comments people leave on prosumer HD videos and in most cases the reasons why people say they're beautiful is because of their resolution. There's seems to be this belief that clarity is good cinematography. I really dig what you've done here.
It's always funny when people say prosumer HD and 35mm are similar. That debate kinda goes away when you project your piece in a theater. Yeah, there might not be much difference in the "film look" when you're watching the two on Vimeo, but in any other context you clearly can tell. The clarity of Prosumer HD just kinda messes up that suspension of disbelief, ya know?
And like you've said, I don't think the use of HD is going to knock 35mm out of the picture at all.
Thanks for watching !!

I like it how it stays interesting without any dialoge. Good job.
Digital is nothing like film, does not feel like film, does not give the same image as film, and no matter what, it looks sterile. 35mm adapters and some sketchy color correction with Magic Bullet cannot replicate or even come close with looking like film.
Albeit, I don't mind footage that much from the Panavision Genesis or the RED camera... but those are just as expensive to get a hold of as a 35mm, and cost just as much to use.
A careless cinematographer, in my experience will always get a more beautiful looking shot with film, than with digital.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_medium_is_the_message
Exactly how much the medium adds value (or subtracts) is pretty much dependent of what the intent of the message. And, IMHO...in some (if not most) instances (specially when it comes to technology) the medium is not as influencial as the message.
Honestly, if you hadn't said it was film... I could not have determined the difference.
Good video/film BTW...
cinema is cinema . cinema is life . no matter if you write a story on your computer or on a type writer or on an iphone - it's still a story.
I will say though that some shots seem underexposed, and in some shots the whites seem crushed. I guess it's just that I wish there were more contrast in some of the shots, which can be hard when you're working with 14 STOPS LATTITUDE!! Haha.
So what does this short mean? I'm trying to figure it out. :D Nice work.
love the look and i agree, a prosumer camera will NEVER achieve a look exactly like this, and i hope it stays that way.
thanks for watching ..
